How to Prevent Different Fence Problems

Today, we’ll be discussing how you can prevent common fence problems so you can get as much enjoyment from your fence as possible.

Fences are valuable resources for anyone’s home. They can boost your home’s curb appeal, enhance privacy around your yard, and give your home extra security. Over time, however, your fence will start to experience issues that will harm both its appearance and functionality. Today, we’ll be discussing how you can prevent common fence problems so you can get as much enjoyment from your fence as possible.

Leaning Fence Posts

One of the more common fence problems homeowners may experience is when fence posts start leaning to one side. This can happen when soil is unstable, or when the fence isn’t installed properly. For these reasons, you need to be sure that you use the right post hole depth so that the fence is properly fastened to the ground. The soil must also be heavily compacted so that the soil doesn’t shift later.

Fence Rotting

Some fence problems affect all fences, but this problem is specific to wooden ones. Wood is a fence material that’s prone to rotting over time, especially when there’s plenty of moisture in the air, or when you experience wet weather conditions like rain or snow.

Painting and sealing your fence are both effective precautions to take to keep your fence protected against rotting. If rotting has already begun, you should replace the affected fence panels before they can affect the rest of your fence.

Vegetation Overgrowth Around Your Fence

In some cases, vegetation can start growing around your fence. When plants start to push up against your fence, it could put extra pressure on the fence, making it more likely for fence posts to break or warp. If you don’t want this to happen, you should take some time to trim the greenery around your fence. You can also take an additional precaution by installing some sort of barrier that will stop your plants from reaching your fence again.
