Christmas in April
Recently Hercules Fence had the privilege of giving back to the Prince George’s County community and partnering with a University of Maryland sponsored organization called “Christmas in April”. Christmas in April looks for opportunities to help residents on and around the University of Maryland campus with needed repairs to their home and properties to both beautify the County, and assist its residents. Hercules Fence was contacted by Christmas in April who inquired if we would be willing to donate a new fence and gate to the front of the home during the renovations. Not only did we jump at the opportunity, but provided upgraded vinyl coated material, a brand new gate, and fence in the backyard as well. We worked with several other area contractors to make the job happen over the course of one rainy weekend, and are proud that we were able to serve a community that has given so much to us through over 50 years of business. Hercules Fence is proud of its partnership with Christmas in April, the University of Maryland, and Prince George’s County.

Hercules Fence and Hercules Custom Iron Create Anti-climb Fence and Galvanized Stair for AMTRAK.
Hercules Fence successfully completes a high profile anti-climb fence and complicated stair installation for AMTRAK. The John Street Tunnel in Baltimore, MD, has recently undergone a major renovation with significant upgrades.
Hercules Fence has provided an ornamental steel anti-climb fence, powder coated railings, a vinyl coated chain link fence, as well as an intricate and difficult stair installation– located directly above a live AMTRAK line. Portions of this job require nighttime installation, and there is an extra emphasis on job safety as this was a very steep and delicate installation.
This challenging job was captured on camera. Below we have two videos of the Hercules team hard at work on this significant project.

Hercules work featured on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
Following our appearance on HGTV’s “Curb Appeal,” we participated in another home restoration but for a different kind of home. We worked with ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” on the after-school home for underserved children in northeastern Washington, DC: The Fishing School.
The school serves children from 6-12 years old with after-school and summer enrichment programs that improve their academic performance and helps them avoid the dangers present in their neighborhoods. It’s an inspiring institution that we were only too happy to help.
“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and Burch Builders teamed up to create a state-of-the-art facility for the Fishing School and its students. We were honored to be asked to install fencing for the property. We used a combination of metal picket and wood fencing to offer privacy and protection while maintaining a friendly environment for young minds to grow and develop.
All the contractors who participated in the project, including Hercules Fence, donated their time and materials. It was an easy contribution to make given the good work that the school does in the community. The episode aired in February, but you can view our video of the project as well as find out how you can make a donation to the Fishing School by clicking here.

Hercules Fence helps restore the National Mall
There are high-profile jobs, and then there are HIGH-PROFILE jobs. In the U.S., it doesn’t get much higher than the National Mall in Washington, DC, so you’ll forgive us if we toot our own horn about the work we did there.
A lot has been made during the last few years of the deterioration of the Mall and its sites. The wear and tear of 25 million visitors annually is showing as detailed by the Trust for the National Mall. The National Park Service, which maintains it, is developing a plan to give the Mall a facelift. We were honored and happy to contribute to the mall’s revitalization by installing new fencing around some of the most hallowed and most visited landmarks in our nation including the Washington Monument, Lincoln and Jefferson memorials, and the Korean, Vietnam, and World War II memorials.
We oversaw the project from conception to completion. We selected an attractive chain-and-post design that steered visitors away from protected areas while still inviting them to visit the landmarks. We then installed nearly three miles of custom fencing in the area.
Obviously, it’s easier for anyone to close off an area where a large project is in progress, but in such high-traffic area as the Mall, that’s hardly possible. As you can see in the video and slideshow of the project, our skilled installers took great care and pride as they performed the task while sightseers continued to make their way around the monuments.
From fencing in the smallest yard to projects like this, Hercules Fence is up to the task and delivers expert service and same eye for functionality and aesthetics for all our customers. Contact us to learn more.

As seen on HGTV’s “Curb Appeal”
When HGTV’s hit show, “Curb Appeal,” needed some help turning Jessica and Bryant Wilson’s plain, suburban home into an attractive, seaside-themed bungalow, it turned to Hercules Fence for a vital component.
One of the first things that designer Christopher Ralston identified to “bring the beach to the ‘burbs” at the Wilsons’ house was a white picket fence to “frame the yard and give it a classic look.” We were honored to be called upon to handle this part of the project and flattered when Jessica Wilson said the yard looked like a movie set with the fence around it.
When you watch the video, you’ll see that the fence we installed wasn’t your traditional wood picket fence but rather one made of PVC vinyl and already assembled in sections. This made it easy to install and even easier for the Wilsons to maintain. It had all the look of a classic picket fence without the hassles of having to paint or replace old wood.
What you didn’t see in the video was “Curb Appeal’s” production schedule. Installing the fence had to be precisely sequenced with all the other work going on and completed within a tight timeframe. We were up to the challenge and extend such service to meet all of our customers’ needs.
The Wilsons’ relatives helped design and build much of the porch, its furniture, and the landscaping around the house. We’re therefore doubly honored to be called in for what was very much a family project. We now like to consider the Wilsons members of our extended family. Contact us to lean how we can add curb appeal to your home.
